US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday amid growing fears that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could be imminent.
Blinken will hold talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev, before meeting with European allies in Berlin and his Russian counterpart in Geneva on Friday.
Russia has repeatedly denied plans to invade neighboring Ukraine, but senior US officials say Moscow could attack “at any moment.”
About 100,000 Russian troops have been deployed near Ukraine’s borders, and White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters Tuesday that the gathering had created an “extremely dangerous situation.”
She said no option was off the table and that Blinken “would underline very clearly that there is a diplomatic path ahead”.
Russia, on the other hand, has made a number of demands on the West, including that Ukraine should never join NATO and that the defense alliance’s military activities should be limited to member countries, including Poland.
