The Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu visited today the Central Polyclinic in Tirana, where one of the four DEXA devices for measuring bone density was installed, state-of-the-art equipment, installed for the first time in the public health service.
“As part of the investments that we continue to make in our entire network of services, primary care, hospital care, specialist care, our polyclinics, we are here today as work has begun with a new device, namely for the examination of bone density or all those problems he has, in terms of osteoporosis. It is already an examination that is done in the Central Polyclinic. Therefore, it is always the opportunity to inform all citizens that, as I believe, they have followed us in the Polyclinic of Vlora, but also in Shkodra, in QSUT, but now in our Polyclinic here in the middle of Tirana, we have installed this new device ”declared Manastirliu.
During the inspection at the Central Polyclinic, Manastirliu said that these are investments that increase the range of services provided in the public health system by strengthening the capacity of human resources to conduct examinations faster.
“These are investments that increase the range of services provided in our public health system. They definitely strengthen all the capacities of our human resources, doctors, nurses, technicians as well. Because having new equipment and examinations which help us not only to diagnose faster but also to follow the disease at every stage of it. “Undoubtedly, this makes us care more for the citizens and the patients at every stage of their lives”, stressed Manastirliu.
Investment of the Albanian government for equipping polyclinics and hospitals with medical equipment for measuring bone density for people suffering from osteoporosis, an investment worth 15.4 million ALL.
The equipment is installed in the Central Polyclinic in Tirana, in QSUT, Polyclinics of Vlora and Shkodra Hospitals. Dexa is a device used to diagnose osteoporosis, which is more common in women over the age of 50 and in men over 60. According to WHO data, 13% – 18% of women over the age of 50 are likely suffer from osteoporosis and 70% of age over 80 years.
