The spread of new strains of the virus, believed to be more contagious, continues to be a concern for authorities.
The so-called British version of COVID-19 will most likely become the dominant version in the US in March. The British variant, also known as 1.1.7, is spreading rapidly in Europe, raising concerns about a third wave of the pandemic in some countries where vaccination campaigns are ongoing.
Countries such as Portugal, the Czech Republic, Germany and Greece as well as most of the EU have applied harsh restrictions against COVID-19.
In Ireland, citizens in Dublin have protested against isolation measures and authorities have arrested at least 23 people. The country is in its third nationwide isolation, and last week authorities extended the measure until April 5.
Meanwhile, New Zealand, which has been a model country for responding to the pandemic, has been forced to impose isolation in its largest city, as authorities are trying to bring the British version of the virus under control.
The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern has announced that the city of Auckland will be in isolation for seven days, as in total, 13 cases have been identified in this city with the new variant of the virus.
