North Korea has confirmed its first death from covid, while state media reports that tens of thousands of people are showing symptoms like fever and chills.
Six people have died after suffering from fever and one of them has tested positive for the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, state media reported on Friday.
North Korean authorities have reported an explosion of the Omicron variant in the Pyongyang capital, and have announced isolation measures.
Some experts believe that the virus has been present in this state for a long time, despite the fact that the authorities officially announced the first case on May 12.
North Korea has not provided coronavirus vaccines and has refused to supply vaccines from manufacturers AstraZeneca and Sinovac.
North Korea’s only way to fight the coronavirus has been through the closure of its external borders since January 2020.
