A young British nurse has been jailed for three years after being caught with 9 grams of cocaine at the Creamfields music festival as incriminating messages on the Whatsapp network exposed her lies.
21-year-old Courtney Healy, was jet trafficking hard drugs at the Creamfields festival in August 2021.
She had 14 doses of cocaine in her bag as she initially told police she was carrying drugs for a friend of hers.
The cocaine found in it weighed 8.9 and had a market value of around pa 1,000.
Healy’s excuses collapsed as officers uncovered traffic coordination messages on her cell phone, in which she joked that if her mother found out, she would “send him to jail”.
Referring to cannabis, one of her messages was read in court saying: “I smoke it every day, I can kill people with it, my mom would send me to jail if she found out I was doing it.”
In another message she confirmed she would gain around pa 200 if she took the drugs to the Creamfields festival.
Prosecutor Richard Edwards said Healy had sent numerous messages to friends asking them about drugs.
One of them replied: “Oh I was afraid this would happen, they are all corked.”
Healy had traveled 300 km from her home in Maesteg, Wales to come to the famous electronic music festival, known for the psychedelic or unnatural nature of the participants due to drugs.
Judge Steven Everett called her actions “evil.”
“Yes, she should lower her head in shame. How naive can a man be?”
But many commentators called the sentence of three years in prison for a young woman who had no previous sentences harsh.
Defense attorney Bernice Campbell said the case was difficult: “This is a young girl who needs to ruin her life.”
