The Russian invasion of Ukraine “is a catastrophe for our continent,” British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote on Twitter.
He confirmed he would make a statement this morning and speak with other G7 leaders later today.
Russia’s attack on Ukraine on Thursday was also considered one of the “darkest hours for Europe” in nearly 80 years, according to European Union foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell.
“These are the darkest hours for Europe since the end of World War II,” EU High Representative Josep Borrell told reporters.
Borrell promised “urgent assistance to Ukraine”, as well as support for evacuation efforts, including from EU staff.
