Osmani: Visa liberalization for Kosovo, an easy decision for the EU

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani has stated that visa liberalization for Kosovo would be an easy decision for the European Union (EU), as according to her there are no obstacles, and no reason to delay their decision.

“Visa liberalization for Kosovo should be a very easy decision for the EU, there are no obstacles, Kosovo does not produce illegal exile, crime and corruption are fought at a level that is being recognized by international reports, so since these “States in the bilateral aspect are encouraging Kosovo to continue with such reforms, there is no need for procrastination”, stated Osmani in an interview for RTV Dukagjini.

According to her, it is a very important momentum because on June 23 at the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will be held in Brussels, a geopolitical message will be given in relation to Ukraine and other countries, and according to her another important message for the Western Balkans as part of Europe.

“For Kosovo, this means visa liberalization at the moment, but after a few months, for Kosovo the answer should be a ‘yes’, in relation to the candidate status,” Osmani told RTV Dukagjini.

Also, from the “Prespa Forum for Dialogue”, which is being held in Ohrid, Northern Macedonia, on the topic “Building a stable European security together”, Osmani said that they gave a message together with the presidents of the region who were part of the Forum, who had supported Kosovo, according to her, not only for visa liberalization, but also for the recognition of Kosovo and its integration into the EU.

Osmani was asked what are the chances that in this meeting to give a positive message or request addressed to the institutions that have this issue within the EU, she said that it has been announced that the formal vote will not take place, but the message political at that summit can be given.

Osmani also said that it is enough for member states to express their readiness to support visa liberalization, and that it will be expected that even countries that have not supported Kosovo now give signals.

“We have already been informed by the EU institutions that the formal vote will not take place in that country, but there will be a political message at that summit, so it is enough for member states to express their readiness for visa liberalization. “We will expect these 2-3 countries to give positive signals in June, but even if there is no answer, our institutions are working to address these issues, separately with them,” Osmani told RTV Dukagjini.

At next Thursday’s summit, Osmani stated that it is not a good strategy to increase expectations, since, according to her, they have worked with countries separately, that each of the member states recognizes the contribution that Kosovo is giving to report on global issues.

“I do not believe that it is a good strategy to increase expectations, we have worked with individual countries, member states know that Kosovo is contributing in relation to global issues, and is developing all values,” said Osmani.

While, according to her, we should not prejudge their political decision, as the last word will be given by the member states, according to her, a lot of work should be done and the citizens should never lose hope, as it is a great injustice to them.

While, Osmani also discussed the issue of whether Kosovo will apply this year to receive the status of candidate country for the European Union (EU), where according to her, is in their plans to apply this year.
