The weather forecast for this week and next in Turkey is for severe winter conditions, with strong drop in temperatures and continuous rain and snow in most provinces.
Meteorologists warned that the country’s most populous city, Istanbul, will be covered in snow starting tonight. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced that the snowfall is expected to continue next week. For 6 days in a row, says the Turkish Meteorological Service, most of the 81 provinces will be covered by bad weather.
So far, snowfall has been more concentrated in the central and eastern regions of the country, but starting Friday, the thermometer marks significant reductions in other warmer regions in the west as well.
In Istanbul, temperatures will drop to minus 4 degrees Celsius and this situation will continue at least until Wednesday. On Monday, it is thought that the snowfall will reach its peak intensity, to weaken in the following days.
Snow is also forecast in the western area of Izmir, where such precipitation is a rarity. The cold front does not spare even the capital Ankara, where heavy rains are expected for at least 4 days.
