The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it has received 329 nominations for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Oslo-based organization said this is the third highest number of candidates ever registered.
The record of 376 candidates was reached in 2016.
This year’s nominations include 234 individuals and 95 organizations.
“This reflects a lot of international interest in the Nobel Peace Prize,” said Nobel Committee Secretary Olav Njoelstad.
The committee does not disclose who has been nominated. But those who nominate can reveal their choices.
Nominees for this year include Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, exiled Belarusian opposition leader Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, and U.S. human rights activist Stacey Abrams.
The list also includes former United States President Donald Trump.
Nominated organizations include the World Health Organization, the International Fact-Finding Network, and media observers: Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists.
The Nobel laureate for this year will be announced in October.
The World Food Program won the Nobel Peace Prize last year.
