On June 28, 2002, thousands of different citizens from all over Albania had invaded Tirana and the streets of Rinas to receive their King and Royal Family.
The Albanian Royal Family consisting of: Queen Mother Geraldine, King Leka I, Queen Suzan, Crown Prince Leka II had already trespassed on their land. King Leka for the numerous media would express; “I want to thank the Albanian people, the Albanian state that gave us this opportunity to return to our homeland.”
The long caravan of cars had taken the road to Tirana where after 63 years in exile he was finally returning the Royal Family to his homeland.
Today, 20 years later, Prince Leka posted the photos, where the royal family returns to their homeland after a long emigration.
“Today marks 20 years since the return of the Albanian Royal Family to the homeland after a forced and prolonged emigration. On this day we would like to remember not only those men and women who sacrificed with the Royal Family for a free and European Albania, both in emigration and in Albania, but also those deputies, representatives of the people in the Albanian Parliament who tore down the wall and they overturned the law forbidding the return of the Royal Family to Albania and realized the wish and will of Queen Mother Geraldine to close her eyes to the country she loved and welcomed as their Queen. Naturally, on this 20th anniversary of the return of the Royal Family to their homeland, the only question we ask ourselves is whether we can do even more for the country and the people.
As in the past, the mission of the Royal Family remains one and unchanged: social peace, prosperity and brotherhood among Albanians. Our Albania needs all of us to build it and make it a beloved country, above all for our youth. Our Albania has the potential to be envied by all. God bless our Albania!“, Writes Prince Leka.
