Montenegrin police confirmed to Radio Free Europe that they are investigating several calls for causing chaos in Montenegro, made through the Telegram messaging app.
According to police, such messages in the Telegram were distributed by a group called “Rebellion is a state of mind.”
Messages calling for “blood and knife” were distributed on other social networks on February 6.
The group has over 17.4 thousand members, mainly from Serbia, Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
In their posts, members of the group identify with the Serbian Orthodox Church, praise Serbian war criminal Ratko Mladic, promote Chetnik ideology and claim that “Serbs in Montenegro are endangered”, reports the Balkan Service of Radio Free Europe.
After distributing their posts online, the group stated that “it has not called for brotherly bloodshed”, but “the people have been brutally oppressed, arrested and persecuted for thirty years and can no longer.”
The competent state prosecution of Montenegro has been notified about this event, but it has not yet been declared about it.
As REL reports in Montenegro, attacks, threats and hate speech have become more frequent in the country since the 2020 change of power.
After 30 years in power of the Democratic Party of Socialists, the ruling coalition in Montenegro was formed by the pro-Serbian Democratic Front, Democrats and the civic movement URA, in December 2020.
However, this government – led by Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic – was ousted by the Montenegrin Parliament last week.
On Monday, the Assembly is expected to vote on the dismissal of the chairman of this institution, Aleksa Becic.
Since its inception, Krivokapic’s cabinet has been embroiled in squabbles between its coalition partners – pro-Serb and pro-European – which has led to a decline in public support for him.
The motion of no confidence in the Government was initiated by the URA, led by the current Deputy Prime Minister, Dritan Abazovi..
Abazovic said that after the fall of Krivokapic’s government, talks would begin on forming a new executive branch.
He said that there are several options for resolving the situation, including early elections.
