Pope Francis on Saturday called for dialogue to oppose the isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic as the world celebrates a second Christmas under the shadow of the coronavirus.
This time it is Omikron’s fault that he is rapidly infecting, preventing the party for the second time. In his traditional Christmas’s blessing for Urbi and Orbi, the Pope also delivered a message.
“In this time of pandemic, we have come to realize more and more that our capacity for social relations has been put to the test; there is a growing tendency to withdraw, to do it all yourself, to stop trying to meet others. “Even at the international level, there is a risk of avoiding dialogue, the risk that this complex crisis will lead to shortcuts instead of embarking on longer paths of dialogue,” said the Pope.
Only dialogue can lead to conflict resolution and lasting benefits for all, said the 85-year-old Argentine Pope.
“Let us think of the people of Syria, who for more than a decade have experienced a war that has resulted in many casualties and an incalculable number of displaced persons. Let’s look at Iraq, which is still struggling to recover from a long conflict. Let’s hear the screams of children coming out of Yemen, where a great tragedy, ignored by all, has continued in silence for years, causing death every day. Be a source of light and support for all who believe and strive, despite all obstacles, to advance meeting and dialogue. “In Ukraine, prevent new outbreaks of protracted conflict.”
During the Christmas Eve Mass, which was attended by about 2,000 members of the public wearing masks and respecting social distance, the Pope urged people to appreciate the little things in life.
