Tensions continue in the Democratic Party. A group of deputies supporting the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha found today the doors of the headquarters closed, where as they stated they had gone to hold a meeting.
The clashes come at a time when supporters of former Prime Minister Berisha have called for a protest on January 8 in the Democratic Party courtyard, the day on which they say Democrats will take control of their home.
But on the other hand, the General Secretary, Gazment Bardhi, spoke about Democrats who have been in charge of the headquarters all these years, warning that whoever incites acts of violence will not achieve the goal.
From the videos published in the media, it can be seen that the headquarters of the Democratic Party has been fortified with the intention of detaining anyone who will try to enter the interior of the building by force.
The videos showed armored doors and fortifications with iron profiles. To these measures have been added some floodlights placed in some parts of the headquarters, after allusions that opposition protesters may be “stuck” in the yard of the Democratic Party.
We recall that until January 5, supporters of former Prime Minister Berisha gave President Lulzim Basha a deadline to vacate the Democratic Party headquarters. January 8 has been announced as the day when they have called a protest at the party headquarters, against Lulzim Basha, whom they consider dismissed from the leadership of the main opposition force.
However, for several days, both sides have exchanged harsh remarks, prompted by the interventions that DP leader Basha has launched in the headquarters building. Today, a group of members of the Re-establishment Commission and after them some women supporters of former Prime Minister Berisha went to the headquarters, to hold, as they said, a meeting. In fact, their appearance was more like an attempt to keep the internal tension alive and that the ultimatum remained in force, as well as to prove that they were right when they accused Lulzim Basha of shielding the Party headquarters, comparing him that with the infamous former American prison Alcatraz.
Supporters of former Prime Minister Berisha have accused Lulzim Basha of being “Edi Rama’s miserable hostage for his affairs”, emphasizing that he is reacting in the most shameful and criminal way. According to them, Basha instead of using the days of tolerance to collect his rags, he decided to armor the headquarters, fortifying the doors and windows of the headquarters of the Albanian Democrats. They urged him that the Democrats’ headquarters is not his private property, just as his hostage-taker considers the Prime Minister’s building.
In its statement, the Re-establishment Commission “warns the Rama-Basha binomial that, for their anti-democratic and destabilizing scenario, they will receive as a deserved answer the shame of history”.
For several months, the Democratic Party has been embroiled in an internal battle between Mr. Basha and his former predecessor Berisha, who intends to regain control of the main opposition force after being left out of the parliamentary group due to the non-grata declaration by the United States.
