Hundreds of red shoes were placed in “Skënderbej” square this March 8 to draw attention to gender-based violence.
This way of protesting originated on August 20, 2009, when Mexican architect and artist Elina Chauvet made an installation in memory of hundreds, thousands of young girls who disappeared, were tortured and then killed in Juárez, the border between Mexico and America, during the 1990s and 2000s. This event comes on the closing day of FemFest.

While at FemFest on the evening of March 7, stylist Borana Gjyzeli presented a fashion show where her creations were worn by women surviving cancer, beautiful regardless of age, height, weight or skin color.
