Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army entered the courtyard of the Kosovo Assembly on Monday while protesting in Pristina.
The Kosovo Police came out in front of the doors of this institution, which used spray in the direction of the protesters.
Tear gas was also seen during the protest.
The protest supported by the Organization of War Veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army (OVL-KLA) was scheduled to be held in front of the Assembly, as a sign of dissatisfaction for their non-involvement in raising the minimum wage. Veterans’ pension is the same as the minimum wage in Kosovo, but the draft law approved by the Government of Kosovo to increase this salary, does not include the increase of veterans’ pensions.
The acting chairman of the OVL-KLA, Faton Klinaku, said that their demands were ignored by Kosovo institutions and that they were forced to protest to express their dissatisfaction.
“We have been ignored by the country’s institutions and we have been forced to express our dissatisfaction in protest.” The draft law that paves the way for the increase of the minimum wage, will be discussed on Monday in the plenary session of the Assembly of Kosovo.
It was approved by the Government of Kosovo in April this year. According to this draft law, the minimum wage will be increased to 264 euros gross, or 250 euros net. Currently, this salary is 130 euros for employees under the age of 35 and 170 euros for employees over 35./ rel
