The Serbian government has been forced to withdraw the Expropriation Law from parliamentary proceedings, which was returned for reconsideration by President Aleksandar Vucic.
Its announcement states that an analysis will be made in advance, if changes and additions to the Law on Expropriation are necessary.
“If it is found that it is necessary to change the law, the Government will do it, but in addition to the public debate which will include experts, representatives of the economy and civil society“, Writes in the announcement.
It is also said that in the same session the Government proposed to the Assembly the amendments to the Law on Referendum and popular initiatives, for the articles that refer to the verification of signatures and the representatives of the authorized proposer in the referendum body, as well as the deadline for re-announcing the referendum.
According to the new proposals, there will be no possibility that a referendum on the same issue will be announced in less than four years and that the Assembly of Serbia will not be able to make a decision in four years different from the one confirmed in referendum.
Dissatisfied with the various proposals in the Law on Expropriation and Referendum, thousands of Serb citizens in Belgrade and other cities protested for two weekends in a row, blocking the main roads with the demand that these two laws be withdrawn from the Assembly procedure, it seems that their pressure , success.
