Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a speech today in a stadium crowded with thousands of people in defense of his invasion of Ukraine where supporters waved flags with the military symbol ‘Z’ at the Luzhniki Arena in Moscow.
The pro-war event since critics compared it to the rallies of former US President Donald Trump, was held for the eighth anniversary of the involvement of Crimea in Russia in 2014, writes the British Daily Mail.
Although the leader spoke of the success of the “special military operation” in Ukraine, Russia has sent thousands of troops to Ukraine since February 24 to demilitarize its southern neighbor and eradicate groups it calls Nazis and radical nationalists.

The white ‘Z’ symbol has become a symbol of Russian nationalism and has been placed on many Moscow military vehicles.
As the fierce war continues thousands of miles away in Ukraine, Putin boasted of the “common fate” of Russia and Crimea and praised the vote of the peninsula’s inhabitants to be part of Russia.
“We are united in the same fate. “People thought so when they voted in the referendum in Sevastopol,” he told the people of Russia and Crimea.
“Sevastopol did the right thing by voting to oust neo-Nazis and radicals, who have gained dominance in other territories. “Even the people in Donbass who did not accept this organized themselves militarily against them,” Putin said in so-called false claims by the West.
Putin praised Russian troops taking part in the special operation, saying they were fighting to “protect Russian universal values”.
Crowds chanted “Russia, Russia, Russia” amid Putin’s speech.
Moscow police said about 200,000 people had come to Luzhniki Stadium for the rally.
The event took place after Russian airstrikes hit the western city of Lviv this morning, moving closer and closer to the borders of Poland, which is a member of NATO.
