Russia has at its disposal a battalion of female soldiers armed with lipstick and nail polish, which organize beauty contests where they are judged on both their appearance and skills on the battlefield, writes the British satirist Daily Star.
At last year’s event, these soldiers “were painted on their faces with various camouflage paints, with stars and flags”, to brighten the colors around them.
The women also took part in a biathlon where they used AK-47 automatic rifles.
Putin reportedly bans his female soldiers roles in combat on the front lines, leaving them supporting roles in the event of incursions or invasion.
The development comes as French President Emmanuel Macron today made a phone call to the Russian leader aimed at easing tensions.
Putin has called for Ukraine to distance itself from NATO, although the United States says it’s Ukraine’s sovereign right to join security alliances.
