Serbia will have a very favorable price for Russian gas and that a supply agreement to be signed will be for three years, said Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic after a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart. , Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to the media on May 29, Vucic said he had a good telephone conversation with the Russian president and that the two discussed a range of issues. But, as Vucic said, the most important thing for Serbia is that they have agreed on the key elements of the new gas supply agreement, which will last for three years.

He said that these elements are very favorable for Serbia and the formula that has been used is the same as what has been used so far, so that the price is “very favorable”. The current agreement on Russian gas supply expires on May 31.

Serbia is mainly dependent on Russia in the energy sector and in the gas and oil market in Serbia, a monopoly has been created by the Russian company, Gazprom.

Gazprom, directly or through contracting companies, is the main oil supplier in Serbia. Also, this Russian company is the only gas supplier in Serbia and owns the gas pipelines that bring this material from Russia to Serbia.

Gas supplies were the main topic of Vucic’s visit to Russia on November 25, 2021.

After meeting with Putin, Vucic stated that in the next six months the price of Russian gas for Serbia will not change and will be $ 270 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Vucic later said he had discussed the new deal with Putin, but added that he would not give details until the deal is signed. However, he stressed that Serbia would be “satisfied” and that the price would be “reasonable”.

According to a Kremlin statement, Putin had stated that “an acceptable solution” would be reached for the price of Russian gas sold to Serbia.

Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, prompting the West to impose tough sanctions on Moscow. Serbia is the only country in the region that has refused to impose sanctions on Russia.

Finland confirmed on May 21 that Russia had suspended the pipeline after the Nordic country refused to pay in rubles for gas purchased from Gazprom.

Russia has also suspended gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria, which have also refused to pay in rubles for Russian energy.
