A rare decorative Fabergé egg, encrusted with jewels and reportedly worth millions of dollars, has been discovered on the luxury yacht of a ‘troubled’ Russian oligarch, and has been seized by US law enforcement agents.
US Attorney General Lisa Monaco said the items were seized after the yacht was seized in Fiji and then flown to San Diego, where officials were surprised by the jewel-filled items.
While giving a conference in Aspen yesterday, the American official said: “Let’s now move on to things of more interest. We discovered a lot of interesting things … like this Fabergé egg.”
Ms Monaco did not specify which yacht it was found on, nor their owners – but it is believed she was referring to the €300 million Amadea seized in the Fiji Islands.
The jewel-encrusted egg is believed to be authentic and is one of only a few left in the world.
The prices of Fabergé eggs have reached up to 20 million dollars.
Make Faberge was founded by the German goldsmith, Gustav Faberge in Saint Petersburg, Russia in the 19th century.
They have created about 50 such eggs, mostly for the Russian imperial family.
The development comes as the Russian tycoon’s superyacht is set to be auctioned off with an opening bid of $70 million, according to reports.
The 80-metre-long craft – named Axioma – is believed to be owned by Russian tycoon Dmitry Pumpyansky, and was seized in mid-March by Western sanctions against Putin’s allies from the war in Ukraine.
