The Albanian assembly must approve today the resolution on the Serbian genocide in Kosovo, said the democratic deputy, Lulzim Basha, in his speech in the assembly.
This Thursday, the project/resolution for the commemoration and honoring of the victims of the genocide in Srebenica is being presented and discussed in the parliament.
According to Basha, the resolution must be voted to pave the way for the future, which cannot be peaceful for the region without healing the wounds of a war that Albanians have suffered.
“For Serbia to be fully integrated in the region, we must condition it with the request for forgiveness, with the acceptance of crimes, so that the past is not forgotten, and that we do not allow alternative facts concocted by deceitful and denying propaganda to change history according to political appetites or international conjunctures of the moment, we must show unanimously that the way to the future is only through the acceptance of the past, the acceptance of the truth, the complete and clear distancing from Milosevic and the request for forgiveness from the current authorities of the Republic of Serbia .
With this act today, albeit belated, we honor the memory of the more than 8,000 innocent Bosnian victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
Denying genocide in Bosnia and Kosovo shows that you are not separated from the past, but belong to it, you do not seek coexistence but the continuation of the frozen conflict, defending the bloody past, you remain hostage to it and cannot see the future .
Only by fully confronting the past, the citizens of our Region can achieve true reconciliation, lasting reconciliation.
Today there are attempts to run away from the truth, to protect the crimes by hiding the traces, such as the mass graves where the bodies of the massacred Kosovar Albanians are hidden, among them thousands of children”. said the deputy.
Anyone who has committed war crimes must be held accountable, he further emphasized.
“Today, even under Russian aggression in Ukraine, the democratic world must engage seriously and strongly, to close the frozen conflicts that are ready to ignite from time to time, and Albania must do its role.
Today is the time for us, together with our Euro-Atlantic allies, to act quickly with that high sense of responsibility and solidarity that we showed after the Russian aggression, to block any attempt to undermine Bosnia’s territorial integrity and multi-ethnic character. Herzegovina, to conclude the process of recognizing Kosovo and starting the procedures for its membership in the Euro-Atlantic structures, in NATO. Today is the time, tomorrow may be too late.”
