The UN General Assembly on Thursday expelled Russia from the UN human rights council.

Since the start of the Russian occupation of Ukraine on February 24, the Assembly has adopted two resolutions condemning Moscow’s actions, one of which was proposed by Albania. Russia is in the second year of a three-year term on the 47-member council.
The Geneva-based council has a largely symbolic function, but it can authorize investigations into human rights abuses.
