The mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitchko, has stated that Ukraine has a different assessment from that of the American president, Joe Biden, regarding the Russian occupation of the country.
Speaking to the BBC at the Munich Security Conference, Klitschko said that referring to information coming from the intelligence services in Ukraine, it is learned that Russian military troops continue to be in the same positions as before along the border with Ukraine.
He stressed that he was now more concerned than a few weeks ago, adding that civilians in eastern Ukraine were very tense after an attack on a kindergarten in the east of the country.
Klitschko said diplomacy had not yet worked to resolve the crisis, but he hoped it would work in the coming days.
“We hope that at the Munich Security Conference we will find a solution and a democratic solution is the main priority for us, for Ukraine. Democracy is just one way in this conflict“, He said.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday that it was withdrawing more tanks and armored vehicles from areas near the Ukrainian border. According to the ministry, 10 Su-24 fighter jets will be deployed from the annexed Crimean peninsula to other regions.
This withdrawal of Russian troops is the latest in a series of other withdrawals announced this week that initially raised hopes for a easing of tensions between Russia and the west over Ukraine.
While Western leaders have stated that there is no convincing evidence pointing to the withdrawal of Russian troops.
On Thursday, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg warned that Russia had “increased the number of troops even more” in areas near the Ukrainian border.
