Russia will continue to allow gas payments from European countries to be made in euros and not in rubles, as previously announced.
The German government announces the news and informs that Russian President Vladimir Putin, told German Chancellor Olaf Scholz Scholz that payments can be made next month in euros, and the payment should be paid to GazpromBank, which is not affected by sanctions.
German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said the German chancellor was not clear on the statement and asked Putin to send the information in writing.
The German spokesman added that Scholz remained committed to a G7 agreement that energy supplies from Russia would be paid only in euros or US dollars.
Germany gets about half of its gas and a third of its oil from Russia and has warned it could face a recession if supplies stop abruptly.
