Russia could launch an attack on Ukraine just minutes after Vladimir Putin gave the order, warned the British Minister for the Armed Forces, James Heappey.
Heappey said that from that moment, Russian missiles and bombs would start falling on Ukrainian cities. In a statement to Sky News, the minister once again called on British citizens to “leave Ukraine now”, following reports that the invasion could be a matter of days.
“This is not a warning about something that could happen after three months. This is not a warning that will be followed by other warnings because the war is already very close. This is a warning that just minutes after Putin gives the order, Russian bombs will be dropped on Ukraine“, Was his comment for the BBC.
Heappey again stressed that this does not mean that the war will happen by all means, while underlining official London’s desire for a rapid escalation of the situation.
In a joint statement, the G7 finance ministers warned Russia of “major” economic consequences if it decided to invade Ukraine, and promised assistance to the Ukrainian economy.
