Chinese Embassy spokesman Liu Pengyu has denied that China has asked for military assistance to continue its occupation of Ukraine.
Liu Pengyu told CNN that China is concerned about the war and wants peace to be established as soon as possible.
“I have never heard of it. China is deeply concerned and saddened by the situation in Ukraine. We sincerely hope that the situation will be alleviated and peace will be restored at an early date.”Said Pengyu.
The Chinese official added that efforts should be stepped up to launch negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
“The current situation in Ukraine is really worrying. Maximum efforts should be made to support Russia and Ukraine in advancing the negotiations, despite the difficult situation to produce a peaceful result. We support and encourage all efforts that are conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis. The high priority now is to prevent the escalation of the tense situation or even getting out of control.
According to a US official, Russia allegedly asked China for military assistance and assistance in avoiding sanctions.
