Russian soldiers are now in Kiev, Ukrainian officials have confirmed in a Twitter post.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said the “enemy” was in the Obolon district, about 9 km (5.5 miles) north of Kiev’s city center.
They have encouraged locals to make Molotov cocktails to fight, while also advising others to seek shelter.
“Residents, be careful. Do not leave the house! ”
Our correspondents in Kiev reported earlier that they had heard gunshots, although they add that it is impossible to know what it means at this point. They say they can now hear even louder explosions.
