Russian state television has abruptly interrupted a speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin as he addressed an audience at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.
It is not yet known why this happened.
He delivered the speech to mark the eighth anniversary of the annexation of the Ukrainian Peninsula to Crimea.
The annexation of Crimea has been condemned by the West and Ukraine, and therefore they do not recognize it as Russian territory.
Putin’s speech was abruptly interrupted and television showed some songs being sung in the stadium.
A participant in the concert said that Putin finished his speech and left the stage.
Russia sent tens of thousands of troops to Ukraine on February 24 with the aim of degrading Ukraine’s military capabilities and eradicating what it called dangerous nationalists.
Ukrainian forces have responded with fierce resistance to the war.
The West has imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia in order to withdraw its forces from Ukraine.
Russia considers the war in Ukraine a “special military operation.”
