A Ukrainian man learned in the worst possible way the death of his three family members, his wife and two children.
They were killed by a Russian shell after seeing a post showing their dead bodies on Twitter.
“I knew the suitcases and that’s how I learned it”, said Serhiy Perebyinis for the New York Times.
Tetiana Perebyinis and their two children, Mykyta, 18, and Alisa, 9, died in the town of Irpin while fleeing.
In 2014, they fled eastern Ukraine to settle in Kiev after fighting between the Ukrainian army and Russian-backed separatists.
““The whole world needs to know what is going on here.”said Serhiy, who had traveled to care for his ailing mother before the war broke out.
He told the New York Times that to return to Kiev, he was forced to enter Russia and then fly to the city of Kaliningrad to cross into Poland.
Perebyinis said he had told Russian troops on the border with Poland that “my whole family died in what you call a special operation and we call it war. “You can do whatever you want with me, I have nothing to lose.”
“It’s hard to see when your beloved wife is lying in a black bag on the floor.”he wrote.
He also vowed justice for his family: I will fight for them to the end. I will make sure there is a court decision.
