“The title of doctor is not fashionable!”
For 92-year-old linguist Ferdinand Leka, the scientific journey has been long and arduous, from communism to democracy, climbing the ladder one by one with occasional publications to reach the top of the academic pyramid after 60 years, with the title of professor doctor .
“I received the title after passing 4 degrees, new collaborator, then old scientific collaborator. There are 4 diplomas there and the professor has come to the end as a result of his work, there are 70 books of my works“, Said Ferdinand Leka.

An unimaginable thing for the 92-year-old professor, which shows how, according to him, education has been alienated.
“I am making Christ because I am a Christian. Pay that time to get the title? I do not even imagine you have to pay. I live in another world now, there are professors in vain… without any work! ”said Leka.
Violations against plagiarism, or rules of ethics in research are some of the criteria for admission to a doctorate, but the way of verifying candidates calls into question the seriousness of obtaining this title, as the evaluation is done through self-declaration.
Erion Kristo is a professor himself, but he is known for his jokes, as a screen man. The doctorate is the typical case according to him, when a serious issue is treated as comic.
“In Albania, everyone is a professor, because someone with letters does not spoil the work. The state does not have to artificially block the doctorate. The state may impose strict criteria, or a simple computer program for plagiarism control of most unrelated individuals would suffice, and you would lose the desire to do something that would harm them. “As Uncle Vani said ‘I know myself as a good man’… so self-declaration is a joke”, said Christ.
The fashion of doctorates seems to have mainly affected the employees of the ministries, banks or internal pedagogues, who on the basis of titles receive higher salary or increase in office. But do we risk with the large number of postgraduate students, to have an intellectual society on the surface but without dough, with duplicated scientific studies and worthless for the progress of science and society?
“Of course for me this is just a business. The concept of doctoral student will be lost, those who will be associated with prf will be appreciated, but even if the professorship will endlessly, let it go one degree higher. In the end, any structure related to knowledge in Albania has failed. “Maybe those doctoral papers will be used to distribute chestnuts.” said Christ.
