US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried is holding a conference this Wednesday at the Palace of Brigades, attended by Ambassador Yuri Kim, Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister Belinda Balluku.
During her speech, in the framework of the transformation of Albania into an energy exporter, Donfried said that every possible plan is being drafted to be permanently separated from Russia, both in underground and energy resources.
She said that this process will be difficult, but not impossible if there is cooperation.
Donfried: US policies have focused on increasing energy, nuclear and renewable resources. We want to provide energy sources. Putin’s war on Ukraine underscores Europe’s need for independence from Russian gas.
We have plans, like the March 5 initiative, to increase EU independence from Russian gas. This will take years for the EU to free itself from this dependence. We are working to advance this effort. We are investing in technology, we have partnered with American companies to increase liquefied gas supply. Liquid gas will meet the needs of consumers.
We are clear on the aggravation of the situation. Accelerating the transition is an important challenge we are facing together. We recognize that this process takes time. Today more than ever energy diversification is vital, to help cut off Russian gas.
