The United Nations adopted by 141 votes in favor, 5 against and 35 abstentions the resolution supporting peace in Ukraine.
The resolution proposed by Albania and the United States of America has received the vote in favor of Serbia, a longtime ally of Moscow.
This resolution calls for a halt to the Russian attack on Ukraine, but has no binding force on Russia. Serbia’s pro vote is a strong change of Belgrade, which with this vote came out against Russia for once, its historical ally. Russia, meanwhile, has received the support of only four countries. Russia, North Korea, Eritrea, Syria and Belarus voted against the resolution.
Albania has received from the United States the role of pentagon in initiatives at the United Nations. Earlier, Albania and the United States became the authors of two resolutions passed in the Security Council. The first was defeated by Russia’s veto, but was voted in favor by 11 members of the Council. The second one received the same votes. The resolutions condemned the Russian attack on Ukraine.
