Greece has started this morning to apply the fine for people over 60 who have not been vaccinated.
As the government spokesman pointed out, 303,000 citizens over the age of 60 who have insisted on their decision and have not closed a meeting to get the vaccine, will pay a fine of 50 euros for this month and then 100 euros for each following month.
The imposition of the fine was announced 45 days ago by the government and 217,000 people over the age of 60 are vaccinated, but again 10% of this age group has chosen not to be vaccinated.
Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis has stressed that all fines collected from unvaccinated people will go to a fund to strengthen the national health system.
In recent hours again in Athens there have been protests against the restrictions of COVID-19, while the government not only insists on its measures, but is considering expanding compulsory vaccination for people aged 50 and over.
It should be noted that the following are excluded from compulsory vaccination of persons over 60 years of age:
– foreign residents who have a decision to be exempted from the obligation of vaccination by the Health Commissions for health reasons (eg severe allergic reaction, diagnosed allergy, history of thrombocytopenia, etc.)
– those who have been vaccinated abroad
– and those who have already applied for home vaccination and have not yet been vaccinated.
Also five days ago, the Greek health authorities approved the provision of an additional vaccine, the fourth dose, for people with weak immune systems.
Although there is a decrease in the number of infections in the country, which have reached almost 10,800 per day, the authorities have reported in the last 24 hours a very high number of deaths, 95, in total about 22000 and intubated, 680.
