NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has spoken to reporters in Brussels following a meeting of the alliance’s defense ministers.
“Is there an ally that has requested a no-fly zone, even if NATO as a whole decides not to implement one?”asked the BBC reporter.
Stoltenberg responds that the allies are united in the decision not to deploy forces on the ground or in the airspace, because according to him they have the responsibility to ensure that the war does not escalate beyond Ukraine.
The BBC also asked if he thought Ukraine had ‘cooled down’ with NATO membership as a negotiating tool with Russia.
He said that Ukraine is a sovereign, independent nation and “has the right to choose its own path. “It is up to them to decide whether they aspire to NATO membership or not.”
