Restrictions on the sale of oil to the consumer by supermarkets begin.
In the capital, in some supermarkets, surveyed by “Monitor”, it was not allowed to sell more than 5 liters of oil per consumer. Restrictions on trading had begun a few days ago. At another grocery store, the limited purchase amount of sunflower oil was up to 6 liters.
The situation is similar in the districts. Consumers from the cities of Librazhd and Elbasan when asked by “Monitor” said that in some supermarkets of 1 week can not buy more than 6 liters of sunflower oil, while in the city of Pogradec various supermarket chains have imposed sales restrictions of up to 3 liter.
Larger importers of oil say there is no shortage of supplies, as they continue to have difficulty finding quantities. “Currently the demand from supermarkets is high, as stock is required to be created, as oil prices are expected to increase.
With the difficulties being encountered in finding imports it is impossible to guarantee stock for supermarkets and stock for large distributors. “We are not facing oil shortages, but difficulties in supplies continue to be, as foreign suppliers also fail to provide high quantities,” said one of the oil importers.
According to oil traders, the demand from the consumer has also increased due to the panic of rising prices, while others are refreshing the reserves created in March.
For imports of sunflower oil, the situation has worsened in European markets since the start of the war in March, as 80% of world consumption is covered by Ukraine and Russia. In these states in March failed to sow sunflower seeds.
Restrictions on sales to the final consumer have been affected due to restrictions imposed by suppliers from Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, while Northern Macedonia will continue to keep imports closed until 15 May.
In many European countries, such as Italy, Greece, Germany, restrictions on the purchase of edible oil by the consumer in supermarkets have been implemented since April. In the Albanian market, the first to start supply restrictions were small traders.
Small food businesses contacted by Monitor claimed earlier that they could not buy more than 15 or 30 liters of sunflower oil (1-2 boxes) from wholesale stores due to lack of supplies.
