Switzerland has today approved the latest round of EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus, as Russian military aggression continues in Ukraine and new reports of atrocities are emerging every day.
The Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs and Education has also imposed financial sanctions and travel restrictions on 200 other individuals, including two of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s daughters.
The list of Swiss sanctions now fully reflects that of the EU and the relevant amendments will enter into force at 18:00 local time.
The European Union (EU) on Thursday approved a fifth round of sanctions against Russia over its occupation of Ukraine.
Under the new decision, the purchase, import or transfer of coal and other fossil fuels from Russia will be banned from August this year.
Russian ships will not be allowed to enter EU ports, except for ships carrying agricultural and food products, humanitarian aid and energy.
The EU will also ban Russian and Belarusian trucks, with the exception of vehicles transporting medical and food products, as well as humanitarian aid.
The European bloc also extended the ban on exports of advanced technology such as semiconductors, software and sensitive machinery, and included a ban on transactions at four other Russian banks.
About 217 individuals and 18 entities were also added to the EU sanctions list.
