Prices this summer have increased as a whole on the Albanian coast. This increase varies from area to area, but fluctuates between 10-50%.
Somewhere the changes are justified by the costs and everyone is aware of this, somewhere the demand/offer also played a role and in some cases, the increase is considered unfounded.
But how have prices changed compared to a year ago and which are the cheapest and most expensive destinations this summer in Albania?
Velipoja and Shengjini continue to be the cheapest destinations this year as well as last year. For the lower average prices, the increase from 2021 to 2022 is 25%, while for the upper average this increase is about 15% for Velipoja and about 20% for Shengjin.
However, what should be emphasized for these two regions is the fact that hotels with relatively high average prices have breakfast and dinner packages included, somehow justifying the increase but also trying to become attractive for tourists, as an economic alternative.
The average lower price for a double room at the end of July or August fluctuates at 35 euros. A year ago, this price was 25 euros. This increase of almost 40% seems to be related more according to the tour operators to the increase in demand than to the costs. Luxury hotels in this area, meanwhile, have increased their prices by about 15% and some of them include packages or only breakfast.
Durrës is one of the few destinations due to its considerable accommodation capacity, but also private apartments that offer options for everyone, both for economic and luxury vacations.
In Vlora, hotels that offer lower average prices have not changed this compared to a year ago. So if in 2021, a free double room could be found for 35 euros, that much can be secured this year as well. What has changed is the price for the upper average, which goes up to 200 euros, where compared to a year ago, it is with an increase of about 35%.
The south holds the record for salty prices, but this is also related to the fact that in some destinations, we are not dealing with typical hotels but with villas. In Palasa, a villa that can accommodate more than 7 people can be found for 450 euros/night, while a year ago, it was 280 euros/night. On the other hand, in Jal, the lower average prices have remained the same at 60 euros, while the upper average prices go up to 350 euros a night on certain days, from 280 euros a year ago.
In Saranda, the prices for average hotels considered cheap have increased by 10%, while for the upper average by 15%.
As for sunbeds, Velipoja, Shëngjini and Durrësi have the cheapest prices, dominated by 500 lek, but in the first two destinations you can find them even cheaper, even for customers of hotels that also have a beach, they are free.
While in the South, in general, prices fluctuate between 1000 and 2000 ALL. There are also exceptional cases, with more expensive prices, but this is related to exclusive beaches or areas designated as “private”./ Monitor
