The White House said today that there were “strong indications” that Russia was committing war crimes in Ukraine.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates has stated that we are horrified by Russia’s brutal tactics of killing and raping people, pregnant women and children.
“We have all seen the destructive images coming from Ukraine and we are appalled by Russia’s brutal tactics. Pregnant women in stretchers, shelled apartment buildings, families killed seeking safety from this horrific violence. “We are also seeing reports of other types of possible abuses, including sexual and gender-based violence,” he said.
Of course, there is still no official decision on this, legally taken by a proper investigation, but senior international officials have classified Russia’s military actions against Ukraine as such.
Describing these attacks as disgusting, Bites said civilian casualties in Ukraine continue to rise and are a testament to Russia’s war crimes.
“If Russia deliberately targets civilians, this would be a war crime. And as we all see on television live, the evidence is growing and we are documenting it as it happens. “There are strong indications that this is happening and that the hated way in which Russia is pursuing this war will result in war crimes.”
According to him, human rights activists, civil society and independent media that document, collect and expose evidence of possible war crimes, human rights abuses and violations of international humanitarian law have the full support of the United States. this evidence will then be reviewed with allies and partners, to hold accountable all those involved in these war crimes.
Earlier, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that Russia’s actions against the Ukrainian people constitute war crimes.
