In some images that can be considered rude for many, an enthusiastic vacationer can be seen who starts to throw stones, and then violently grabs a fish by the tail that came close to the shore, thinking it was “a dangerous shark”.
The naive beachgoer had mistaken the appearance of the shark for what is known as a stork fish, or needle fish, which is a peaceful creature that had come ashore because of what must have been a problem.
Shocked onlookers at the Turkish resort of Turunc in Mugla province watched as the man sought to take control of the situation despite the perceived “danger” being false.
Needlefish often swim in shallow waters, and sometimes vacationers are frightened by them.
In the video, the woman filming the scene can be heard saying: “How beautiful you are! Maybe he’s scared.”
But then the “brave” beachcomber appears with a stone in his hand, which he throws towards the fish, then grabs it by the tail and pulls it towards the shore.
A shocked voice in the background is heard saying, “He stoned him!”
The woman with the camera says: “These kinds of people …”
Another woman can be heard saying: “Oh look he grabbed her by the tail. What is he doing like that?”
Others are heard saying in the background: “Let him go! You guys tell him to let it go.”
It is not clear what happened next but some reports said that the authorities are taking an interest in the case.
