When it comes to football, without the slightest doubt, Milan is on the list of the greatest that the world has known.

“Djalli” is one of the most popular Italian clubs in the world and this is one of the great successes that the “Reds” have achieved in the international arena.

SuperSport writes that the success of the “Djall” has been built not only on sensational signings, but also on the academy that has produced some of the biggest names, including Franco Baresi and Paolo Maldini.

Franco Baresi

One of the greatest defenders of all time, Franco Baresi was a legendary name in European football in the 80s and 90s. Baresi inspired Milan throughout his career. Interestingly, however, he only joined the Reds after being rejected by city rivals Inter. Baresi joined the “red” club when he was only a 12-year-old, in 1972, and made his debut in the first team at the age of 17. He went on to play for Milan for 20 years, making 719 appearances in all competitions. The defender helped Milan win six Serie A titles, two Serie B titles and three European Cups. In honor of Baresi, “Djalli” has also removed the number 6.

Paolo Maldini

Legends don’t come bigger than Paolo Maldini. He was the cornerstone of the Milan and Italy teams, leading them with courage and skill. Nicknamed “Il Capitano” (The Captain), it’s easy to see why he chose to be with Milan for life, representing the club for 25 years of his football career.
He made 902 appearances for Milan, a club record, and has also made 126 appearances for Italy. Often regarded as the greatest left-back the world of football has ever seen, Maldini helped Milan win seven Serie A titles and five European Cups, and in his honor the “Devil” has dropped the number 3.

Demetrio Albertini
After growing up in Milan’s academy, Demetrio Albertini made his debut for the first team at the age of 17 during the 1988-89 season.
He spent 14 years at “San Siro” and had great success, becoming one of the best midfielders of his time.

Albertini helped Milan win five Serie A titles and three Champions League trophies, before moves to Atletico Madrid, Lazio, Atalanta and Barcelona. Albertini was also a regular in Italy, making 79 appearances for his country during an admirable career.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

Donnarumma is undoubtedly the best talent to emerge from Milan’s academy in recent years. The goalkeeper joined the club in 2013 and his exceptional talent was immediately recognized.

Indeed, Donnarumma made his first-team debut at the age of 16 in 2015. In doing so, he became the second-youngest goalkeeper to start a match in Italian football history. At the age of 17, Donnarumma also became the youngest goalkeeper ever to play for the Italian national team. Donnarumma spent six years in Milan’s first team and left in 2021 to join PSG after his contract expired.

By then, he had established himself among the best goalkeepers in the world, having played a key role in Italy’s triumph at Euro 2020, where he was also named Player of the Tournament.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang is another of the big names who recently came out of Milan’s academy, but who never played for the main team of “Djall”.
However, the striker is one of the greatest strikers of the moment. Aubameyang joined Milan’s youth team in 2007, but after loan spells at Dijon, Lille and Monaco, he was sold to Saint-Etienne in 2011.

He became a star in Ligue 1, before moving to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in 2013. He then moved to Arsenal in 2018 and ended up winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2018-19 season. He currently plays for Barcelona.

Part of the list of the greatest players who came out of the “Djall” academy are:

Sandro Salvadore

Francesco Toldo

Alberico Evan

Alessandro Costacurta

Gianluca Pessotto

Massimo Oddo

Ignazio Abate

Aldo Maldera

Manuel Locatelli

David Calabria
