The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, from Laçi, where he is to hand over the keys of 520 new apartments to those affected by the November 26 earthquake, said that “Albania’s grief is also ours”.
He starts his speech by saying that he has brought the love of millions of Turks to the Albanian citizens.
“Dear Edi Rama, my friend, ministers, residents of Laç, brothers and sisters, I want to greet all of you with love and respect. I have brought you all the love of the Turkish people. I have also brought you the greetings of brothers in Turkey whose hearts beat with you. From here through you I want to convey the greetings of my nation for all Albania. I want to emphasize that I am very happy to be here with you, that I have become part of these emotions, the joy of Albania is both ours and the sorrow. We consider your well-being and peace the same as ours, being as a people that we have experienced these pains, the earthquake in Albania hurt us just like you. As soon as I received the news of the earthquake we are immediately on the move to share the pain of the people affected. We as a state mobilized and came to their aid.
The same as my friend Edi Rama said, the brother stays with the brother when he needs it, not when he is called. After the earthquake we have sent to Albania all the ambulance materials and technical teams, my dear friend Edi Rama with whom we were in constant contact we followed the progress of the works. I have been active and we took initiatives that during this process, we started our contacts with the internationals. The fact that Turkey was one of the first countries to help Albania clearly shows the friendship between us. To alleviate the pain of those affected, we decided together with Rama to sign a memorandum of understanding, so that the dilapidated houses would be made from scratch. So in July as soon as we signed it we started building the construction site even though it was covid ”, he said.
