An important voice in the draft budget of the municipality of Tirana for 2002 is occupied by innovative projects such as the opening of other technology centers such as Tumo. Mayor Erion Veliaj held a conversation with representatives of youth organizations and experts in the field of innovation.
“We built 8 buildings at the Agricultural University of Tirana, of which we need two buildings for students, and 6 dedicated buildings will be dedicated to technology projects. One of them is designed as a space for Nanotechnology. Arben Markoçi is one of the beautiful minds of genius, who leads the research program in Nanotechnology at the Academy of Sciences of Catalonia, Barcelona. This is potentially the first project for nanotechnology where I am hopeful that it will work well “, said Veliaj.
The whole school curriculum is oriented towards technology, since the lower cycle.
“Starting next year, the government has made a decision, as we start with English in the first grade, we will also start with the coding in the first grade. Exercise has been key in this, because it has shown us a pilot project, where, you say, as you learn abc of 1,2,3, you can also learn “Java”, until they reach the age of Tumon, Software Development Academy and Holberton school “, said Veliaj.
Among other projects that also help the development of the city through technology, Veliaj mentioned the necessity of setting up an agency for public transport because according to him we can not remain just a directorate that controls licenses.
We have to be a real authority that makes some decisions binding, such as the decision for GPS, which can also be “open source”, so that you have access and anyone else who will make a application “, said Veliaj.
