In the media sector, in our country, work over 5700 employees. The years change, but the problems remain the same, even some gangrenous.
Last year alone, 19 employees of whom 11 journalists lost their lives, due to Covid 19.
“Journalists, especially in the field and in the districts, continue to be underpaid. Low wages lead to a big movement in the market. Newspaper staff has been reduced by 30%. If in the past 25 people worked, now there are 7-9 employees, who do the same job. There are about 15 complaints that colleagues have submitted to us, because they have received a minimum pension. Here we come to another problem, that part of the media work with two payrolls. Not to mention overtime, unpaid leave, as well as delays in the payment of salaries, a phenomenon that is evident even today“, Says the Head of the Union of Albanian Journalists, Aleksandër Çipa.
