Journalist Marin Mema, in the cycle of documentaries “Albanian Traces” has made a rare and very important discovery, which has already been confirmed by international experts.
In May 2021, “Gjurmë Shqiptare” brought the images of a cave full of human bones which was located about 15 kilometers from the city of Peshkopi in Debar. The story was greeted not only with a bang, but also with the curiosity of what was hidden behind these bones.
A few months after their discovery in “Gjurmë Shqiptare”, the University of Vienna, as a result of an agreement with the relevant institutions, sent a French anthropologist to Albania. Her mission was to take samples of these bones which were sent from the University of Vienna for more specialized analysis to a laboratory at the University of Oxford in the UK. The results were impressive.
Analyzes have shown that these bones belong to people who lived from 1600 to 1700 years ago, so between the IV and V. centuries. Their discovery in a cave in such a massive form and such quite enigmatic conditions is rare, even goes well beyond that.
According to archaeologist Rudenc Ruka, part of the Institute of Archeology to date in Albania, there is no other known case of a cave with such a large number of bones belonging to this period.
Journalist Marin Mema himself has emphasized that despite the initial disbelief of some of the professors in the field, the results showed that science should be done with facts and not with words. He asked the relevant institutions to continue further research in this cave by conducting DNA analysis, but also archaeological excavations throughout the area.
No one knows what is still hidden in this place previously unknown to archaeologists, but it is a fact that “Gjurmë Shqiptare” by journalist Marin Mema has brought an extraordinary discovery. For more follow the video of the documentary:
