A serious case has been reported in the UK where a dog bit a 14-day-old baby 23 times.
Amy Litchfield, 31, had fallen asleep next to her baby around two in the morning, while Reuben, just 14 days old, was in bed.
Father Dan MCNulty had come down from the second floor of the house to light a cigarette, but heard the baby crying and hurried into the room.
“He is bleeding,” he told the operator on the phone while panicked, he called the ambulance.
“There is a possibility that being Dotty, Reuben seemed like bait or a toy. “It is possible that the baby’s cries or any movement caused the dog to react.”, said expert Simon Newberry.
He was taken to Cambridge Hospital in England, where he was found to have serious injuries to his spine, head and brain. Three days after he was removed from the apparatus that kept him alive, Reuben passed away.
At the hearing it was concluded that a specialized team for animals, had warned the parents before Reuben was born to be careful with Dotty and keep him away from children.
Dan and Amy were arrested for child neglect, but in December 2020 the judge decided not to file a lawsuit against them.
