Formerly known in the US as the ‘fattest girl in the world’ since she weighed 150 kg, she is no longer recognized after losing 75 percent of her weight.
8-year-old Jessica Gaude was so obese that her legs could not support her body weight so she could only move by rolling on the floor.
Her mother Carolyn, from the state of Tennessee, accumulated food at home for her daughter who wanted to eat every two hours or otherwise get angry and scream until she had the food she wanted.
But Jessica’s eating habits endangered her life and when breathing problems started she was taken to Tennessee Children’s Hospital in serious condition.
“All parents make mistakes, there are no perfect parents,” says Carolyn. “But my mistakes could have cost my child my life. I’m guilty of it.”
With the help of local social services Jessica was transferred to an obesity clinic where she was placed on a strict diet and exercise regimen.
Thanks to dedicated therapy she managed to lose 145 kg without surgery.
“I’m very proud of him,” says Carolyn.
But Jessica still has to have surgery to remove about 10 kg of excess skin already and still has to fight the urge to eat bad foods or without a controlled diet.
To help with Jessica’s weight loss, Carolyn has even started a parenting course on the recommendation of the authorities, and now, among other things, closely monitors her daughter’s diet.
Already the food that the family buys in stores has the lowest possible calories and the daughter performs physical therapy five times a week.
But despite the weight loss she still has difficulties as the previous weight has damaged her legs which need to regain their former shape through therapy.
