The first official case with the line of monkeys has been confirmed in Greece.
The news was announced by the National Health Organization EODY with a recent announcement.
The case was reported at the “Andreas Syggros” hospital and it is about a person who had recently traveled to Portugal.
The initial test performed at the Central Laboratory of Public Health was positive, while the results are also expected from the Laboratory of Microbiology of the School of Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for the genomic confirmation of the monkey pox virus. The patient is in the hospital in stable condition.
“According to the epidemiological data available so far, the risk to the general population is still low, as the disease is usually mild and self-limiting and is characterized by relatively low transmission.”the National Health Organization also states in its announcement.
The World Health Organization (WHO) on Sunday confirmed 780 cases of monkey pox in 27 countries around the world.
Recent figures do not count infections in African countries where the virus is considered endemic.
However, officials warned that the risk to public health “could become high if the virus seizes the opportunity to settle in non-endemic countries as a widespread human pathogen.”
Monkey pox is considered a less serious disease compared to linen, which disappeared in 1980.
The pathogen is transmitted from one person to another through close physical contact.
Symptoms usually disappear within a few weeks, but can occasionally lead to complications and death in very rare cases.
No one has died among the 780 reported cases.
However, so far this year, 66 people have died in five African countries from causes related to the monkey line.
Recall that in Kosovo so far there are only suspicions of a case of smallpox of monkeys, a case that has been sent for testing abroad.
