Russia on Friday accused Ukrainian forces of attacking a gas depot in the city of Belgorod, 40km from Russia’s border with Ukraine, and 80km from Kharkiv, one of the cities most attacked by Russians.
If it turns out to be true, this would be the first time it has been confirmed that Ukrainian planes are flying over Russian airspace to hit a target.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba neither confirms nor denies Ukraine’s authorship in the attack. He told reporters he was waiting for a response from Russia if it took seriously what was agreed in the peace talks.
“We are waiting for an official position from Russia. “We have not yet received a full response from Russia to the proposals we have raised in Istanbul.” says Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
In the images published by the Russian Ministry of Emergencies, firefighters are seen in their efforts to extinguish the flames in the fuel storage facility.
Ukrainian helicopter pilots have a lot of experience in low-flying flights to avoid detection by military radars and air defense systems. They have been practicing this practice in the Donbas region for years, reports the BBC.
This attack, still unconfirmed, will not change the battle, but it may show that Ukraine has maintained the effective functioning of its air force and further boosts the morale of its military.
