The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime announces that a judge and a lawyer have been arrested in Elbasan for corruption, while 2 others have been handcuffed.
“The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime, has conducted investigations within the framework of criminal proceedings no. 209 of 2021, for the criminal offenses “Active corruption of the judge, prosecutor and other justice officials”, in cooperation, provided by the articles 319 and 25 of the Criminal Code, “Passive corruption of the judge, prosecutor and other officials of justice”, provided by articles 319/ç of the Criminal Code, as well as “Decriminalization of crime”, provided by article 300 of the Criminal Code.
The investigated criminal fact is related to a case of active/passive corruption in the justice system (in the city of Elbasan), where interested persons/family members of an arrested citizen in cooperation with the defense lawyer, have offered the judge of the case an amount monetary with the purpose of favoritism in determining the amount of punishment.
After the analysis of the evidence collected in the framework of this criminal proceeding by the Special Prosecutor’s Office, the request for the appointment of security measures was addressed to the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime. Court with decision no. 64 dated 21.07.2022 has decided the appointment of personal insurance measures for 5 (five) citizens.
On 22.07.2022, the General Directorate of the State Police executed the decision of the Court no. 64 dated 21.07.2022, for the appointment of security measures.
The security measure “House arrest”, provided by article 237 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, has been executed for the citizen ZV, who is a judge in the Judicial District Court, Elbasan.
Security measures “Arrest in prison”, provided by article 238 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, have been executed for the citizen IP, with the duty of defense attorney, as well as for the citizens TR and Xh.M.
The security measure “House arrest”, provided for by article 237 of the Criminal Procedure Code for the AT citizen, has been executed.
