The Albanian chief negotiator, Zef Mazi, during the meeting of the analytical review of the legislation after the First Albania-EU Intergovernmental Conference, emphasized that all governments will benefit from the expansion of the European Union.
According to him, these talks will be extended a bit and this will bring more time to deliver a good job in September.
Mazi emphasized that the promises not kept by the EU already belong to the past and that now he will strongly oppose the entry into the EU.
“We must have a strategic approach, perhaps in these circumstances that not everyone can have their cake and eat it themselves with the EU, from now on what we have said, the unfulfilled promises already belong to the past. As one of the greatest figures has said, European architecture can best be built brick by brick, what you are doing today is laying the foundation brick for what will be a long membership marathon. Our own governments will benefit from this enlargement, the EU will become a greater influence. In the last 30 years, Albania has shown a growth towards the integration process. This has served as our backbone. These negotiations or these talks will be extended a little bit I believe and it will rely on the best way of coordination to be able to deliver a good job in September. Our team has 30 negotiators, this will be implemented respecting all layers of society.
I know that presenting our progress immediately affects the review report. A lot of attention will be given to this matter. The expansion efforts have been delayed for three years, it has not been easy, but we are happy for our country. In conclusion, let me reiterate my deep appreciation for the entire European Commission. I can’t mention names because I might forget someone, but you all deserve it, you have been an unwavering support for my country. I believe that we will have fruitful cooperation, Albania and we are ready to cooperate”, said Mazi.
The Albanian delegation led by Prime Minister Edi Rama included the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Olta Xhaçka, Chief Negotiator Zef Mazi, as well as representatives from state institutions involved in this process.
